My name is Lauren Paulbick, Director of Operations at Epiphany Health. I have more than 10 years' experience conducting internal investigations and supporting complex litigation. Here's what I've learned through the years:

Employees often express concern that investigators only care about "protecting the company" and while this may be true, it's not true in the way they think. The health of a company is directly related to leadership instilling beliefs, modeling behavior, and demonstrating commitment to creating an ethical, safe, and fair workplace culture and experience for those served. At Epiphany Health, protecting the company includes protecting its employees, clients, families, and communities.

A culture of safety is built on transparency and trust. Employees need to feel safe to report concerns and errors without fear of retribution for companies to identify and mitigate risk. Leaders must recognize that they are working with humans who make mistakes, and while they should be held accountable, fair treatment means acknowledging that some mistakes may result from policies and systems that need to be refined.

Workplace investigations play an important role in supporting this ideology. By completing impartial, timely, and thorough investigations, companies demonstrate that employee and client concerns are taken seriously and that they are heard. Investigations help identify individual performance deficiencies, willful misconduct, and areas of opportunities for companies to improve systems, policies, procedures, and training.

Epiphany Health conducts impartial investigations with professionalism, delicacy, and compassion necessary to instill trust and create opportunities to improve the workplace culture, client experience, and organizational success while simultaneously reducing risk and strengthening litigation defenses.
